I tend to hoard things and often things I hide away show up in the weirdest places. In an attempt to declutter and reorganize my stuff here are 5 things kept and where they now belong, and five things thrown and why.
Cleaning up after a big mouse infestation has resulted in some tough decisions made easier.
Five Thrown
1. Box of old cables and hard drives.
First off a box full of goodies. There is a set of old PC speakers, some power cables and adaptors, various audio cables, DVI, VGA, RCA, USB, FireWire, IDE Hard Drives, a mouse mat, and probably a mouse too (not the computer kind).
2. Old books.
No real need to hold onto these old books and manuals. Exploring Office XP anyone? Seriously, if you are still running Office XP you need one of these books so you can beat yourself senseless with it… Other books in this batch include Using Dreamweaver (the Macromedia version), some old Mac OS X books (10.2 era and earlier), teach yourself HTML 4.0 which is probably the most recent book in the bunch. Anyway, this has added about 10kg to the recycling this fortnight.
3. DVD burner
Ripped this out of a mac mini a number of years ago, replaced the drive with a second hard drive, a feat I replicated with a laptop more recently. Both time it turned out to be super useful and as such, the drive never returned and now it’s headed for the scrapyard.
4. Juggling balls, ankle/wrist weights, hand wraps. (no image)
I have (had) a set of 3x 1kg Juggling Balls which were both challenging and a whole lot of fun. Sadly, the mice decided that they wanted to nibble on the wheat filling. 3 burst balls later, wheat filling the plastic tub they were stored in along with the 3 smaller juggling balls, 4 ankle/wrist weights, and hand wraps for boxing also in the tub. All journeying to the bin and adding a substantial weight to the trek which I’ll have to take Monday Night (Tonight)
5. Bag of Holding.
I’m pretty devastated by this. I really like bags. I really liked this one. Unfortunately, with its many broken zips and now it’s new funky eau de mouse, it’s time to say goodbye.
Five Kept.
On the plus side, I’m moving my desk out to the living room so I can multitask while looking after the kids (yeah right) but more importantly so I’m more visible and don’t hide myself away in a dungeon away from the rest of the family. I’m cheating here a little, but, here are some featured items I’m keeping.
1. iMac – This old thing is currently serving as a media server and part time wordpress editor.
2. Raspberry Pi – a new addition and not 100% sure what it will end up becoming.
3. Camera Bag – Old, Crumpler, Reliable. Good zips, doesn’t smell of mouse but does not contain it’s own pocket dimension so it’s capacity is limited.
4. Workbench – Really happy with this bench I picked up from Bunnings, it’s been functional and is just the right size for its new home.
5. Bookshelf (with books) – So I have kept a handful of more relevant books and they are happily stored in this bookshelf from my childhood (don’t tell Dad, think he’s been looking for it) that fits nicely under the desk waiting to be joined by many, many future books.
